TDEE Calculator for Men

Men typically carry more lean mass, so the same height and activity often produce a higher TDEE than female defaults. This page pre-sets sex to male and focuses on the activity mistakes we see most in men.

The context

What is different about TDEE for men?

The equations already include sex. Men usually show higher BMR at the same age and height because average lean mass is higher. The bigger real-world error is activity bragging: many men pick “very active” when the week is three lifts and a desk job.

Use an honest multiplier, run the number for two weeks, then cut or bulk from verified maintenance — not from a gym-bro estimate.

Why the formula drifts

Common TDEE pitfalls for men

Fix these before changing macros.

01

Ego activity tier

“Athlete” while averaging 5k steps is how maintenance becomes a bulk.

02

Watch double-count

Adding Strava burn on top of a multiplier inflates intake.

03

Weekend calories

Thursday–Sunday social eating often dwarfs weekday discipline.

04

Protein theater

Shakes without a daily gram target still leave you under-fueled for muscle.

05

Daily weigh-ins only

Use weekly averages before declaring a stall.

06

Sleep vs “hard work”

Six hours and a huge deficit rarely end well.

Method

How this calculator gets to your number

Same Mifflin-St Jeor (or Katch-McArdle) engine as the homepage — with one extra step for this use case.

Run it with my numbers
  1. 1

    Resting burn (BMR)

Mifflin-St Jeor from age, sex, height and weight. Enter body fat and we switch to Katch-McArdle for leaner or muscular bodies.

  2. 2

    Activity multiplier

Match the whole week — not your hardest training day. A one-tier mistake usually adds or subtracts 200–400 kcal.

  3. 3

    Training emphasis

A small, transparent adjustment for this page’s audience. We keep factors conservative so you can verify with a two-week weight average.

Practical defaults for men

Boring works.

  1. #1

    Pick lightly/moderately active honestly

When unsure, choose the lower tier and verify.

  2. #2

    Anchor protein at meals

40 g-ish per meal is an easy mental rule for many men.

  3. #3

    Walk on rest days

NEAT separates two men with the same gym schedule.

  4. #4

    Recalculate after body-weight shifts

Especially after the first 5 kg of a cut or bulk.

FAQ

Questions about TDEE men

Short, direct answers. If yours is missing, ask and we will add it.

Ask a question

It depends on size and activity. Average moderately active men often land ~2,400–3,000 kcal, but your calculator result beats any chart.
